Officers join in summer safer streets campaign |
||
Officers from across Tamworth have joined in with a summer safer streets aimed at preventing crime and disorder relating to the night-time economy in the town. The project sees special constables, PCSOs and regular officers conduct high visibility patrols throughout the summer weekends, with street angels and representatives from the local authority also present to help anyone in need of support after a night out. Officers from our licencing team are also due to carry out proactive checks at venues that form part of the night-time economy to make sure they are compliant with regulations in order to keep people safe. The aim of the activity is to help prevent alcohol-related violence and disorder and to act quickly on any related reports received. Officers will also be carrying out checks relating to drug-use and anti-social behaviour. PC Venus Wakley, who is organising the activity, said: “The operation is carried out alongside our usual weekend safer nights activity and involves more partner agencies, with an opportunity for everyone to work together to tackle issues affecting the night-time economy during the summer months. “Extra officers will be on patrol in the town centre to assist in combatting crime and disorder during the weekends and will be monitoring instances of alcohol-related disorder, as well as providing support to venue door staff and security. “We hope that this reassures the community that we are committed to supporting them in having a safe and enjoyable night out in Tamworth.” | ||
